World Health Day
2005 has arrived. Around the globe, hundreds
of organizations will host events to help
raise awareness of the unacceptable level
of illness, suffering and death among
mothers and children, and to stimulate
collective responsibility and action to
ensure life and good health among these
precious members of society.
 Africa
has been blessed by the presence of Mercy
Ships. During a just completed four month
visit to the West African nation of Benin,
the Mercy Ship Anastasis provided free
medical care to thousands, including 45
cleft lip and 24 palate reconstructions.

The Mercy Ship Anastasis has
arrived in Monrovia, Liberia for her first
ever visit to the war torn West African
nation. At the urging of United Nations
officials, the Liberian Government and
the National Council of Churches, Mercy
Ships will provide a full slate of specialized
medical services as well as community
development assistance over the next four
months. Mercy Ships will offer desperately
needed operations and medical procedures
unavailable in Liberia such as tumor removals
and cleft lip/palate repair.
